2011 DRTC Awards Banquet

Angela to the left and Robbie our President
get the 2011 awards banquet rolling!
Good Monday morning everybody and I hope you enjoyed that beautiful weekend!
I have to say that I enjoyed myself very much as did everyone who attended our 3rd Annual DRTC Awards Banquet on Saturday night!
We began with our AGM at 5:00 pm with a good turnout of club members present and it was nice to see the interest everyone had in  the operation and future operation of our triathlon club.
As we worked our way through the circulated and posted agenda, Robbie kept us on track so that everyone had a chance to report, say their bit and then move on so we could finish in time for the (party) banquet to begin.
As our nine member DRTC Board of Directors is set up to rotate through three different members each year sending them to election, an election was held that saw Angela and Patty returned and Gisele replaced by Jeff.
Gisele was very gracious and most accommodating as she welcomed Jeff to the Board with her usual big smile.
Thank you Gisele form all of us as DRTC members for the many hours you have contributed to the well being of our club. Your presence on the board will be missed but we know you will still be close at hand to help us out! : )
Welcome back to Angela and Patty and to Jeff we are looking forward to working with you and having your input into the running of our club.
The Awards Banquet began around 6:30 pm once all of our guests arrived, we socialized a bit and then with a guiding hand from Angela our Master MC, she got us to the buffet tables and like last year we enjoyed a wonderfully catered dinner.
Next up (before dessert) were the DRTC awards themselves and without a doubt this was the most fun time of our evening together!
I will have to get the official list of who won what because we have many awards, but I have to say that our membership did a very good job with their voting on Survey Monkey.
The membership had spoken and their choices were good which shows their votes were not given without thought.
Some of the choices were very difficult to make because all the nominated triathletes were so deserving. The nominations in one category resulted in a voter tie which saw both members receiving the award.
Angela kept us moving along with her usual charm and I really enjoyed how the presentations were made to each new recipient. We had (when possible) last year's award winner present to this year's award winner and it was a huge hit with everyone.
By doing this we involved so many more personalities into the mix and turned out to be a lot of fun.
Everyone who spoke on Saturday night was awesome and it was so nice to see their personalities and passions shine through at a time when many speakers are not comfortable enough to do that.
The mood of the room was comfortable and fun and that's exactly what we wanted! : )
At the Whitby Marina we had our 2011 DRCT slide show photos running, we had a couple of 2011 video shorts showing club members training and racing and the CD sound system was loaded with music to run for hours, yahoo!
Oh yes, we did get coffee and dessert right after the awards ceremony was completed!
Whew!
It is a lot of work to put this evening together and that pat on the back goes to the DRTC Board but seriously, the enjoyment we all shared made it worth the effort!
To all of our triathlon club board members, nominees and award winners and to those who were in attendance it was certainly my pleasure to spend Saturday night with each of you to support the cause.
Remember, a club is only as good as it's members and by looking around the room on Saturday I think we are looking at a very bright future! : )
Next club stop is the Whitby Santa Claus parade! Yahoo!
I think it's still OK to pat someone on the back, how about you?
Cheers!
